Game 1: 9/5/04 vs. Comets
The first game was long awaited and much anticipated by the Colonials crowd. It seemed as if everyone was ready for the season to start. The team opened up their first game at Lehigh Valley Ice Arena against the Comets and if this is any sign of things to come, Colonials fans will be cheering alot this season. The visitors came out flying with 4 straight goals before half the period was even over! Brian Dixon scored the first goal for the AA team this year with an assist from Steve Genualdi just 16 seconds in. Twenty seconds later Matt Fullam scored an unassisted goal to put his team up 2-0.
The Colonials were buzzing and it seemed as if nothing could stop them. James Bellush put one in from the point with an assist from Justin "Buzz" Sobieski, quickly followed by Mike Lundberg's first goal of the game. It was 4-0 before the Comets could even realize the game started and the bench was erupting. The Comets wouldn't just roll over however and scored goals on 2 straight consecutive rushes, one with a pass through the crease and the other where goaltender Geoff Durham was left out to dry on a breakaway. The Colonials fought back though with goals from Corey DeFranco and another 2 from Lundberg to complete the hat trick. They never looked back as Sobieski had 3 assists, Jay Sogliuzzo added the final nail in the coffin and Eric Visnovsky shut them down the rest of the way in goal to give his team an 8-3 victory in their first game of the season.
