Game 17 vs. American Eagles
Game 17: 10/30/04 vs. American Eagles (T 2-2)

The Colonials continued league play on Saturday as they traveled down to Wall Sports Arena to face the American Eagles. Both teams were in the upper half of the NJYHL and it had all the makings of an exciting game and it was certainly worth the price of admission. The Colonials were down 2 forwards as Corey DeFranco and Drew Perry were both serving suspensions. The coaching staff preached keeping it together and working as a team no matter what happened. They would face adversity to start the game as even though they were controlling the period a heartbreaker would occur. The Eagles forecheck was working hard and as they pinned the Colonials in the zone they forced the defense to try and wrap it around the net but it actually ended up going in, catching goaltender Geoff Durham off guard. It was a fluky goal but it would count as the Eagles went up 1-0. It stayed that way until the second period where the Eagles would score again to go ahead by 2. Down 2-0 going into the third period, the Colonials remembered the locker room talk about keeping it together and never let down. They actually increased their level of play. They had numerous chances including a few that looked like they went in but they couldn't seem to buy a goal until two assistant captains changed all that. Brian Dixon worked the puck down low and found Buzz Sobieski in front of the net who buried the puck up and over the goalies glove to cut the lead in half. The Eagles tried to respond but Durham stood strong in net and the defense held up keeping their team in the game and the offense would respond. Dixon again brought the puck into the zone and worked his way around the Eagles defenseman and found Anthony Matarazzo charging in and he slid it right through the goalie's legs to tie the game. It had all the makings of a great comeback and the Colonials had the chance to win the game late but Mikey Lundberg was robbed on the doorstep and the game would end in a tie. The Colonials come back home for a Sunday night Halloween matchup with the Medford Jaguars.
