Game 12 vs. Blues
Game 12: 10/10/04 vs. Montclair Blues (W 8-3)

The table was set for the first league game of the year. The Montlcair Blues vs. the NJ Colonials at Mennen. There was a buzz throughout the crowd as the Colonials took a team picture on the ice before the game to commemorate the start of the season. Geoff Durham got the nod in goal and the Blues countered with Rich Summers. Both of them stood on their head in the early goings. The Colonials were pouring shots on Summers and he was responding to the task, doing everything he could to keep his team in it. It paid off as the Blues scored the first two goals of the game, both from high shots from the points. The Colonials were down 2-0 after one period even though they had outshot the blues 15-2. It was frustrating but the coaching staff calmed them down and told them to just keep playing their game and eventually the goals would come. Just as predicted the goals arrived just in time to pull them out of a ditch. Corey DeFranco found Mike Postorino in front of the net and he one-timed a goal in to make the crowd erupt and cut the lead in half. Just 2 minutes later defenseman Jordan Tucci kept a puck in the zone and fired a tape to tape pass to Buzz Sobieski who buried it in front of the net to tie the game. The Blues were self-destructing and the chances were finally going in as Dave Magnollay took a pass from Mike Lundberg and converted it into a goal and the comeback was complete. Summers took a dumb penalty by getting mad and throwing the puck down the ice putting the Colonials back on the PP. It was 3-2 after 2 periods but the Blues wouldn't give in. Matt Rogers fired a puck that found its way through Durham, Matt Fullam tried to keep it out but it somehow snuck in and the game was tied. It wouldn't be for long however as the Colonials would not be denied. Magnollay set up behind the net looking for someone to pass to, deciding they were all covered and he took it himself right in front of the net and backhanded it home to give his team the lead again. From there on out it was all Colonials. Corey DeFranco continued his hot streak as he put in a goal. Linemate Drew Perry had an assist and other linemate Matt Daugherty did as well before he put two in of his own, both on breakaways. Postorino added another goal for good measure and the rout was on. The Colonials would take it 8-3 and win their first league game of the year. Their next game is Saturday at home against Brick.
