Game 10: 10/3/04 vs. Jr. Phantoms AAA Major
The second game of the home and home series with the Phantoms proved to be more of the same as Ryan Mara put in three more giving him 7 on the weekend to ice the Colonials 5-3 again. It can be looked at as two losses or two learning experiences against a team that is a level above them. NJ Colonials hockey director Noel Rubin had this to say after the game, "To walk out of there against a AAA team, a whole level above you, with two close scores like that is great. You guys should be real proud of yourselves and will be ready to go when you play AA teams again." The Colonials actually scored first this game as Drew Perry found Matt Daugherty again in front of the net for his second goal in as many games. The Phantoms would blast back however with a goal of their own to end the period 1-1. The Colonials were staying with them but had a few breakdowns in their own zone and found themselves down 4-1 after 2 periods. They would not quit however as Daugherty's line would continue to produce as he found Corey DeFranco for another goal to cut the lead in half. The two teams would then exchange goals and a few punches with Daugherty picking up his second of the game and the score would end 5-3. Geoff Durham made some very nice saves to keep his team in it and to keep the score close as he could. The Colonials resume AA play next weekend with a non league contest Friday night and their first league game Sunday.
