Monday

Introduce the story Go Away, Big Green Monster! on chart paper (color words are in the appropriate colors).  Reread story several times in different formats (i.e.  girls only, boys only, popcorn style, silly voice, deep voice).  Pick out color words from story.

Have students come up with other objects that are in the various colors in the story.

Tuesday

Students will participate in literacy center activities:

1.  Computer – listen on online audio of Go Away, Big Green Monster!

2.  Color Word Memory card game

3.  Word Family center – generate new words from words student recognizes in story (i.e. red, white, big, go)

4.  Sentence Strip Center – working in pairs, students will arrange sentence strips with the lines of the story to correct order. (Chart paper story is available for reference).

Literacy Center Checklist

Wednesday

Read chart paper story to class again.  Have students imagine the green monster and draw what he looks like (color words should match the appropriate body parts).  Pain over w/ diluted black pain to give it a spooky background.

Thursday

Read Go Away, Big Green Monster!   Have a small group discussion to describe individual green monsters.  Have students write stories about big green monsters.  Students can publish their stories on the internet.  Make a class book of the stories for class bookshelf.

Play Guess the Covered Word (a PowerPoint presentation) to review.
