National Specialty 2000

Picture a warm summer day and a park-like setting.  Imagine visitors from all over the country, and a few from overseas as well.  Now add a hundred or so Australian terriers and you have a National Specialty.  What is a National Specialty?  It's a dog show for just Aussies, a showcase where breeders, owners and handlers bring their best to compete with the best.  Awards won here are prized above all others for the competition is tough and only a few will win.
The Aussie national is a roving national, so is held in a different location every year.  This year the Colorado club hosted the event in Greeley the weekend of August 18th.  The show on Friday was followed by a barbeque at Island Grove Park.  The two day Greeley Kennel Club shows August 19th and 20th gave exhibitors additional opportunities to take home trophies offered by the Colorado club.
But a National Specialty isn't just about showing Aussies.  Socializing with other Aussie owners is reason enough to attend a national.  Early morning dog walking trips in the parking lot of the Ramkota Hotel provided exhibitors with opportunities to chat and size up the competition.  A more formal banquet and not-so-silent auction on Saturday night provided a fun evening to remember.
It doesn't get better than this, a perfect weekend in Colorado with friends, competition and Aussies.  For a list of the winners, click next.
