This particular style of railway level crossing gate would appear, from the study of numerous photographs of British railway topics, to have been peculiar to Scotland,(unless someone knows otherwise) and used by most of the major pregrouping Scottish railway companies, albiet with minor differences in the style and placement of fittings, ie. lamps and warning boards. Some gates even survived in use as late as 1974,well into the British Railways era.
The model:- the kit components are cast in high quality whitemetal, the gate castings have wire cast insitu to represent the
steel rods of the prototype.A few images of the finished kit can be found on this page.

The crossing gates closed to road traffic as a train approaches

The train has passed and now the gates are open to road traffic

Another view of the gates from the main line showing the crossing keepers
cottage on the right looking towards the crossing and the signal box on the
far side and the tunnel mouth in the distance. The scenery above the tunnel
has as yet to be completed.
