Around Northland

We decided to buy a car / camper van as soon as possible. So we bought this '85 Mitsubishi estate for $1199 on day 3.

The best thing about it is that it got us out of Auckland.

Still goin' strong.

We drove for over five hours on the first day travelling and arrived at a place called Ahipara.

Beautifully situated at the bottom of Ninety Mile Beach, we had our own wee cabin on the beachfront.

Happy camper van in background??

Surf wasn't up to much when we arrived, but next day it was at the bay around the corner.

This was taken from Shipwreck Beach.

This (the object on the left - Linda is to the right) is what remains of the ship that was wrecked on this beach long before it was called Shipwreck Beach (sometime in the mid nineteenth century).

The surf was gorgeous this morning, but we had no boards.
