Heavy Rhythm and Police Guide

This is just a guide for people wanting to pass Rhythm and Police easily. Lots of people think it is a really hard song but I think it is one of the easier 9 foot songs out there, as long as you know what you're doing.

Before you get started I would highly suggest going here for and printing out the step chart of this song. It makes practicing much faster and easier.

  1. [Bars 2 to 10] Ok, so you're ready to begin. Start with only the first 8 measures of the song. To hit all these notes easily, just start with your right foot on the up arrow and alternate feet on every note. If you're thinking that's crazy talk, you probably don't have much turning experience so practice this at a slow speed (2 or 3) or at your own pace with the step chart. You're going to have to turn a total of 8 times. Your right foot will hit the left arrow once and your left foot will hit the right arrow 7 times (2 of which will have your left foot cross behind your right, but if you just make sure to switch feet every step, you should get it just fine).

  2. [Bars 10 to 17] Now the next 7 measures are all gallops. A gallop is when you have two sixteenth note steps, one right after the other. It is like a jump, but one foot lands slightly sooner than the other. If you are unfamiliar with the gallop motion you should practice it before attempting this section. Just do some jumps but have one foot land, then the other quickly follow. Some easier songs to practice gallops on are My Generation and True...trance sunrise mix. I wouldn't suggest practicing on 5.1.1 because it is way too slow. Once you get the motion down, you should practice reading them. They actually are pretty easy to read because not only is the motion like a jump, the arrows look like jumps! You just need to glance at which step is higher up and then land that foot first. But near the end of this section, there comes a galloping turn. Once again, your feet should alternate every step. It will work out fine except you have to cross your left foot over right foot as you turn to the right for a step in the second to last measure of this section. Then just turn back and keep galloping.

  3. [Bars 17 to 18] The next measure is in its own little category and is really easy. You just need to make sure the left step is a little delayed cuz its a 1/16 beat longer than the rest.

  4. [Bars 18 to 25] The next 7 measures are done just like the 1st 8. Start with your left foot on the left arrow. Remember to alternate feet on every step so you'll have to turn. You'll make 8 turns in these measures (left foot hits right arrow 3 times, right foot hits left arrow 5 times). Practice just like you did step 1.

  5. [Bars 25 to 26] The next measure is nearly identical to step 3, but the left and right arrows are switched.

  6. [Bars 26 to 34] The next 8 measures are easy too. Its just a short stream with a few double taps followed by some jumps. There are no turns involoved, so this part should come pretty easily.

  7. [Bars 34 to 43] -For the next sections, pick the foot that you think you're better with.-
Right:For the next 3 measures, you will be turned to the left and your left foot will stay on the down arrow. Let your left foot hit every down step and your right can field the rest. Then, theres a measure with just a jump and a step, followed by 3 more, just like the first three. This time, you'll turn to the right, with your left foot getting all the up arrows and your right foot getting the rest. There will then be 2 measures of some easy jumps.
Left:For the next 3 measures, you will be turned to the right and your right foot will stay on the down arrow. Let your right foot hit every down step and your left can field the rest. Then, theres a measure with just a jump and a step, followed by 3 more, just like the first three. This time, you'll turn to the left with your right foot getting all the up arrows and your left foot getting the rest. There will then be 2 measures of some easy jumps.
**You should have only read one of the above categories**

  8. [Bars 43 to 50] Now, you're back to another 8 measure turning stream (like steps 1 and 4, so it should be practiced the same way). Start with your left foot on the down arrow. You must remember to alternate feet with every step! I know I keep repeating myself, but its the best way to do good and to make this song easy. This time your legs will cross 9 times (left foot hits right arrow 4 times, right foot hits left arrow 5 times). By now you should be getting pretty used to turning, but just keep trying if you don't have it yet.

  9. [Bars 50 to 51] Another measure with the same beat as steps 3 and 5.

  10. [Bars 51 to 58] Now comes a harder gallop section that involves more turning. You will galloping the whole time, like step 2, but this time your feet will cross 5 times (left foot hits right arrow 3 times, right foot hits left arrow 2 times). To get these, just alternate feet every step just like you have been doing, starting with your right foot on that first right arrow.

  11. [Bars 58 to 62] The last four measures of the song are pretty easy cuz they go right along with the music. Its just some eigth notes with a few gallops thrown in. but if you listen to the music there, the rhythm will be easy.
