In 1903 Collingwood and Fitzroy were the stand out teams with Collingwood losing only 2 matches and Fitzroy 3 for the entire home and away season.  In the semi finals Collingwood just beat Carlton by 4 points while Fitzroy accounted for Geelong by a whopping 52 point margin.

The Grand Final was played on an exceptionally hot September day and the Magpie players dug deep to hold a slender lead for most of the match. Then in the dying seconds of the game, with Collingwood holding grimly to a 3 point lead, a sizzling piece of play by Fitzroy players Beauchamp and Trotter allowed their captain Brosnan to mark thirty yards from goal.  As he lined up the bell rang to signal the end the game.  Brosnan sprayed the most important kick of his career wide of the big sticks allowing the Magpie players to savour back to back premierships.

But while the Collingwood faithful celebrated this great achievement the rest of the football world was commencing down the path of their envy and hatred for the greatest Club in the land.  Rumours were rife that some players at Collingwood were actually being paid to play football!

So within two years the Magpies had not only won two flags but they had revolutionised the game with their short style of play, the introduction of pre season training and with the first semblance of professionalism.
