Washington plays a cop who is having an affair with another man�s wife. Bad, right? Not according to the film. They try to justify it by saying that his wife left him first. Well...it�s still an affair. He also steals money. Bad, also? Nope. He�s only stealing it to pay for medical reasons for the woman he is having an affair with. I had a problem with this film because he kept doing things wrong, but it didn�t seem like it.
When the action finally started, I found that the directing was of high caliber. Scenes take place where Washington�s character lies about his identity and gets into trouble in the process. The result is him trying to convince both the law and civilians that he�s good. All the while, a heart-pounding chase is in progress. That almost compensated for the errors...but still not quite.
This isn�t to say that Washington�s performance was bad. I have never seen a film where he gives a bad performance, and he is still good in this film. However, the rest of the cast gets by closely.
The film itself is much like Washington�s character, where it makes a huge mistake, tries to redeem itself, but ends up only making it worse. I think it is the feel of the movie that takes away from an altogether great script. The unfolding of that story, though, is somewhat disappointing. Many will disagree with me, but �Out of Time� does not satisfy. ** �
