Lemmy Caution is an American Secret agent in te future. He arrives on the planet Alphaville, and as soon as he checks into his hotel room, a secuctress named Natasha is sent to his room, courtsey of the hotel. But he has no time for love, as he is there to find a lost agent and to assinate the evil dictator Leonard Von Braun, who has outlawed all froms of self expression and has created a huge computer named Alpha 60 to rule for him.


This 1965 film by Jean Luc Godard is one of the high points of the French New Wave. It is a truly strange fusion of sci fi and film nior and french stylings. It is a fascinating movie in it's lack of any kind of special effects, which is done less because of money or technology constraints, but more because Godard wasn't interested in making a real sci fi film, he just wanted to comment on the genre in general.
