Albuquerque

For Christmas I went to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for around three weeks. I stayed there a friend's place and celebrated one of the best Christmases ever. Albuquerque is also a very interesting town but no place to live for a long time. It is in the middle of the desert, very dry and also cold in the Winter, it is very flat (because of the sand), and the town is filled with strip malls and mobile homes. My friend's place is only a few feet away from the world famous Route 66. A few points of interest in Albuquerque are the zoo, the aquarium, the University, the National Atomic Museum (on the military base), the Old Town, and a history museum close to the Old Town.
The National Atomic museum displays a replica of the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki, called Fat Boy. The museum's interpretation of this tragic event was surprisingly candid and referred to the unnecessity of the dropping of at least the second atomic bomb. Numerous quotes of the time supported this assumption. It is a strange feeling to see this atrocious weapon that has killed so many innocent people. I also saw a movie called Rhapsody in August, which deals with exactly this event and has since become one of my most favorite movies of all times. It is a very melancholic film directed by Akira Kurosawa.
