The Four Winds

By Don X

The Four Winds blow,

whispering to me,
what I was a part of before I was born
what innocense already knows,
telling me what my ears did not hear,
but the aching heart remembers...
I hear the cries of generations past,
their tears mingle with mine...
for we suffer though we survived,
they lived though they died,
I feel their loss for it is also our own...
the victor of those battles,
vying for dominion over the earth,
seeking out its sages,
killing the wise,
it leaves me alone
as long as I conform,
bend my soul's back,
so that the demon may reside,
a most powerful emperor,
turning man against man,
his ally is greed,
our enemy is our own,
we go to war,
against unmet brothers
and unknown friends,
against children and elderly,
mothers and fathers,
sons and daughters,
slaughter with bombs,
there is no honor,
no warriors,
we sell our souls to the Demon, the Beast,
and we call that "safety, security."
What safety is there in the belly of the Beast?
That is the greatest peril,
men's bodies should die before
yielding their spirits to such an end...
