Yearlong Research Project

Overview



During the entire school year you will be working on an independent research project. It will be broken down into four major parts, with one due each marking period and worth 25% of that marking period�s grade. Half of the final exam for this course is an oral presentation of your work. Each aspect of the project will help prepare you for the requirements of the Senior Project that you will have to complete for graduation.

This science research assignment has several objectives:

1.      To learn how to research a technical subject

2.      To increase your knowledge in one specific science topic of your choice

3.      To communicate your knowledge

4.      To recognize science�s impact on our daily life

5.      To learn skills needed for your Senior Project

Assignments in brief:

            1st Marking period:            initial research is conducted

                                                report is written

                                                current event articles are collected

            2nd Marking period:            1st marking period report is corrected

                                                additional information is collected

                                                current event articles are collected

            3rd Marking Period:            two experts on your topic are interviewed

                                                interviews are submitted in writing

                                                current event articles are collected

 

            4th Marking period:            all prior work is corrected

                                                current event articles are collected and summarized

                                                yearlong research is summarized

all work complied in a 3-ring binder

 

Final Exam:               individual oral presentation of your work
