Cop or Robber?
The outrageously funny antics of Martin Lawrence were brought to life in the movie Blue Streak. He brought a certain spunk to the movie that wowed the crowd as their eyes followed him across the screen. Martin is one of those actors that will have you in tears laughing at his work. Not only his actions, but also his words, and his facial expressions keep you entertained the entire time. I could tell by the work that he did in his self-titled show Martin, that this would be a must-see movie.
In the movie, Martin plays a criminal by the name of Miles Logan. His character is a very intelligent man, a criminal mastermind if you would, that uses all of the latest high-tech toys to break into a large bank and steal a diamond worth over 20 million dollars. He has a perfect plan to steal the diamond, but ends up getting caught, so he hides the diamond in an air conditioning unit on the third floor of a building that is being constructed. After two years he was released. He went back to the building to retrieve his diamond. When he got there, he was disappointed to see that it was a police station. In attempts to retrieve his precious stone, he dresses up as a very silly looking character named Buck. Singing and dancing and carrying on, he gets an identification card from one of the officers. Next, he takes this card to a guy that he knows to get a replica with his face on it, a police file, a badge, and a whole new identity. Detective Malone was his new identity. He cleverly tricks the officers into thinking that he was a real cop. With his street smarts from being a criminal, he was very good at solving crimes. His partner, Carlson, played by Luke Wilson, was a guy that really had no clue that Logan was actually a criminal. The main reason for that was that Carlson was a rookie.
Martin's character runs into dealings with two of his old Partners in crime. One of the partners is a young guy, Telly, played by Dave Chappele, that gets into trouble with the law and makes it hard for Martin's character to recover the diamond. Every time Martin's character gets close to the stone something happens and the recovery is delayed. His character is put through a lot of adverse situations that he gets out of because he either knows the criminal, or his street sense gets him out of them.
The other partner that he has is not very trusting of him. He is a very greedy person, and he wants the stone for himself. Closer to the end of the movie, he catches up with Martin, and things start to really get shaky. This partner, played by William Forsythe, makes it very hard to keep his true identity from the police. The run in with this character made the cops suspect something of Martin but couldn't quite get the picture.
We all know that Martin is a great actor. He played this part like he actually was a real cop. The intelligence that he showed in the movie was a shock to me because you rarely get to see Martin in a serious role. The co-star, Luke Wilson, worked with Martin extremely well, and the cohesion between the two made for an enjoyable, and believable movie. We cannot forget about Dave Chappelle. His part in the movie kept me on the edge of my seat. We had to make more scenes for Dave Chappelle. We felt that when he and martin were on the screen that we would get more laughs. These guys are two very talented actors, and are very funny (Mayfield). The mix of those two comedians together made for a stunning comedic adventure.
This movie is a definite must see movie. It is a mix between comedy and action, and it also has a little drama in it for you love birds. Now the question that you might want to ask yourself is this: will Martin ever retrieve the Diamond? That is for me to know and for you to find out. I give this movie five stars. Blue Streak is available for rent at your local movie store.
