Ladders
Equipment: none

First all the girls get a partner.  They sit on the floor with their legs out in front of them, feet against their partners'.  The pairs all line up so the legs form the rungs of a "ladder", as shown.

Each pair is given a number and whenever their number is called they both get up, run "up" the ladder to one end of the hall, touch the wall then run up their side of the ladder, touch the opposite wall and then run back down the ladder to their places.  The route is shown by arrows.

The first to sit back down gets a point for her team (each side of the ladder is a team).

It can be played by giving each pair a name and telling a story where the names are mentioned often - whenever the pair's name is called they run.

Safety:
* Girls touch the end walls as just running round the bottom of the ladder can mean the girl on the end gets grabbed to help them turn

* Make sure there is plenty of space between the "rungs" of the ladder

* Make sure girls who are sitting down keep their legs flat - if in their excitement they lift their knees the runners can fall over them.

* If you prefer, get the girls to all cross their legs, then there's no danger of the runners tripping or the sitting peoples' legs being trampled!
