Who Are All These People?
Being a Guide to the
Populace
of
that Kingdom
First encountered in
“Finding the Dream”
as told by Lord Colin of
Tighan
So who are all these people you meet in my stories? Who else lives in
the Kingdom?
This is mostly a guide for me, but hey--why not share? I
realized, while putting all of this together, that I have just so many
characters in this Kingdom, I need a scorecard! So, for your
enjoyment and to keep me from making a major goof in continuity, here's
the roster for The Kingdom.
After each name is a number, in parentheses. That is the story in
which that character makes his/her first appearance.
1: Finding the Dream
2: The Knight's Boots
3: The Baron
4: We Have Not Lost
?: Has not yet appeared! Wait and see....
Apprentice (?): Mistress Laurel surely has an Apprentice. I just
haven't had a spot for him/her yet.
Baron (3, deceased just prior): A Beloved Rascal, he passed away
shortly before the story that bears his name. A Baron of the
Court.
Baroness (?): Hasn't been seen yet. I will probably make her a
Territorial Baroness, not the wife of the Late Baron.
Captain (3, mentioned): Leader of The Mercenaries. So far, he's
been a bit embarrassed by the Baron, but he presumably took it in good
fun.
Count (?): No idea yet.
Countess (3): She coordinates the gathering to celebrate the life of
the Baron, and makes an unnamed cameo appearance in "We Have Not Lost".
Duchess (3): Wife of the Duke. A very sensible Grand Lady who makes it
her business to keep an eye out for...well, everyone.
Duke's House(3): The Duke appears to have a large Household.
Haven't developed it much beyond that.
Duke(3): Elder statesman of The Kingdom. Still swings a mean
stick, too.
Herald (3): For someone whose job it is to talk alot, this poor soul
doesn't even seem to have been assigned a gender yet, never mind lines
to speak. Must remedy that someday.
King(1): Wise And Fearless Liege of The Kingdom. He's also a
convenient plot device to deliver the moral when I need him.
Lady Waterbearer (3): Based off many wonderful Ladies I have known
doing this job. Lord Waterbearer may also be out there, but I
have to make sure he doesn't come off sounding like me--I had that job
for a couple years! ;)
Little Girl(1): Insert Cuteness/Insert TearJerker. I get a lot of
mileage out of this kid. Maybe I should make Little Boy to tease
her...but it just doesn't seem right. The Voice Of Innocence.
Lord Seneschal (4) : Seneschal of The Kingdom. Poor bloke, he's
got a rough job--but don't they all?
Master Pelican(1): I have an image of an older man, white-haired,
usually smiling...the thing is, the person who most closely resembles
this description that I know personally is not a Pelican, but a
Laurel. Just remember: this is fiction.
Mercenaries (3, Mentioned): I *like* Mercs! I also like picking on
Mercs! Read "The Baron"
MiLady (?): Will we ever meet her? Is she the one who inspires
MiLord's Chivalry...or does she leave dents in his shield? Time
may tell.
MiLord (1): Despite what you may think...not a projection of myself
into this world. He started it all, though, and I name the series
in his honor. He's not always the star of the show,
though...sometimes he barely gets a mention.
Mistress Laurel(1): Work work work! I couldn't make her a
"costuming" Laurel or a "brewing" Laurel--she's all the Laurels in one
package, so you will see her doing more before nine a.m. than
most...nevermind, it's a tired joke.
Mommy(1): Parent of Little Girl. I don't know if Daddy is in the
picture or not. Yet.
New Person(1): He was out at the park one day, and he saw these people
in armor, fighting, and one thing led to another, and...we were all
him, once.
Prince(3, mentioned): He's the Heir to the Throne...and given the
eternal, unchanging nature of The Kingdom, he's gonna stay that way,
probably forever.
Princess (3): The other half of the Heir team. We meet her in
"The Baron", and I imagine I will do more with her eventually.
Protege (?): S/he is probably busy working Troll. Or mopping a floor.
Or...OK. I am picking. :P
Queen (?): Yes! There is a Queen! I just haven't slotted her in
yet! Never fear.
Sir Knight(1): The Archetypal KSCA. Never a mean word, never needs a
shave, never has rust stains on his tunic, always there when you need
him, and will pound the heck out of you on the field--then tell you how
to counter that blow next time. A composite of many fine Peers I have
known.
Squire(1): Sir Knight's Living Pell*cough* Faithful Retainer, he is a
bit of a smartaleck, but he works hard.
