Participation 35%
This course is a testing ground for all your ideas on development, and
an opportunity to share your skills and experience. Be prepared and
have your say – knowledge not shared is wasted! This component includes
5% for the final quiz.
Presentation (25%)
These 15-20 minute presentations on each case will be given by pairs
of students, and will be assigned in the first lecture. To encourage
full participation, the presentation will be 50% peer assessed/50% instructor
assessed.
Research Assignment 10%
At the end of the course, students are required to submit a 6 page research
assignment based on the case they present in class. This will be
researched, written and submitted individually. Pages will be double
spaced, and the limit strictly adhered to!
Weekly Writing Tasks 20%
Students will choose 4 writing tasks based on the case studies. The nature of the tasks will be determined by the instructor, but students are free to choose which ones they complete. These tasks are to be of between 200-400 words (1 – 2 double-spaced pages).
With each writing task, students are requested to submit up to one page
of personal reflections on the previous cases and the course. This
will be an opportunity to express feelings, rather than be analytical,
about the issues raised in the course, the progress/management of the course,
your peers, the instructor, etc. It will not be graded, but is required!
Weekly Assignments 10%
These comprehension/vocabulary assignments will be reviewed at the beginning
of each session, and assessed for completion rather than accuracy.
