Michael-Colin Reed
MAKEUP DESIGN
My philosophy...

As an artist, my ultimate goal is to provide each client with a design that is both age and situationally appropriate.  Whether it's a look for prom, a theatrical special effect or a runway fashion shoot, I deliver the required look in a manner that is fast, friendly and cost effective.  The greatest challenge and the biggest reward comes from creating a look that doesn't look like makeup!  Helping a client achieve a beautiful appearance without a lot of product or hassle is the hallmark of a real artist.
How I got started...

I began my career in the entertainment industry as an actor.  Theater by its very nature is an art where everyone learns to do everything out of necessity.  I began by learning how to do my own makeup then progressed on to designing and executing designs for other local productions.  From there I began working steadily with many professional companies such as Goodman Theater and Circle Theater in Chicago, ACT and Artful Theater in San Francisco and many others. This led to some wonderful associations with many models and actors who I've continued long associations with today.

Theater/Film/Television Credits
Catherine Moore is a celebrity chef who appears on the PBS series Beautiful Days and Moore.  She also does not like to appear made up and pulling this look off for the requirements of the TV camera is quite a trick!  Pictured with her is Miss Oregon 1996, Patricia Leignes, another client of mine.  I did her makeup for her when she won the title and she was so pleased she had me come with her to Atlantic City for the Miss America pageant that year!

Kallen Esperian is a beautiful and talented opera singer from the Chicago area who I had the pleasure of performing with in several productions early in her career.  Her star has soared over the years and now spends over 250 days a year traveling to opera houses internationally.  I've had the pleasure to do both theatrical designs for her stage work as well as her makeup for television and photo shoots.
Rebecca Ryann is a fitness model currently based out of Las Vegas.  She has appeared in Shape magazine, Muscle and Fitness and many others.  She generally prefers a stronger look and the big trick is to not cross the line.  I've flown to some wonderful locations to do her makeup including Cancun and Belize!
Ann Magnuson is a wonderful actress who has appeared is such films as Friends and Lovers, Hugo Pool and The Hunger.  She is also a brilliant comic and I had the great pleasure of doing her makeup for the Los Angeles premiere and subsequent tour of her one woman show You Could Be Home Now.
