| The operation of a tesla coil is as follows: The tesla coil is an air cored resonant transformer. This means that the voltage step up is achieved through the 'ringing' of the primary secondary coil and not through the turns ratio. The voltage discharged from the top terminal can be very high 200kv and above with a low current. the base of the secondary has very hich current and very low voltage in camparison to the top terminal, this is why the RF groung is very important. contrary to popular belief the output sparks are not safe to touch and there have been deaths from doing so. Electricity does not select its victims u select yourself so please be careful. This hobby has so much more to offer than death.
