Plot
Single in London and hung-over on New Year's Day, thirtysomething
Bridget Jones (Zellweger) starts a diary. At her parents' annual buffet
she meets handsome Mark Darcy (Firth). She's impressed and awkward; he's
cold and rude. Back at work, she begins a flirtatious affair with her
boss, Daniel (Grant).
What's
Right With It?
Enormously funny, delightfully romantic and perfectly cast. Putting on
some kilos for the role, Renee is both vulnerable and touchingly real.
And Hugh's finally escaped playing the good-natured goof. His Daniel's a
cad, but charming and sexy enough to make you understand why Renee's
starry-eyed. Lending a nod to his Mr. Dary of TV's Pride and Prejudice,
Firth oozes a smouldering intensity that's tingling. With a finale
that's unashamedly mushy without the slush, you'll leave this magical
movie fully satisfied.
What's
Wrong With It?
Guy's mightn't be rushing to catch it (who cares?), and why all the fuss
about Renee being wrong for the part?
Verdict
The year's best comedy.
