| 1986- First year. Sedan was only model released.
1987- Coupe introduced w/ 2.7 liter V6. Design changes to interior trim such as steering wheel, door panels, dash, and console for coupes only. Sedans keep 2.5L V6. 1988- Engines are upgraded in all sedans to a 2.7 liter from the original 2.5 liter. Sedans also receive updated interior design from the coupe. Brown interior is dropped for a new black and beige interior option. 1989- A driver's airbag is now standard on all models. ABS is available on the L and LS. The L now has an 10-way power driver's seat with memory, as opposed to the old 4-way. The rear suspension is also further refined to help the ride. The moldings around the windshield and back window are now black instead of chrome on the coupes. The alloy wheels are now machined and clearcoated alloy instead of painted. Sedans receive new wheel, bumper, head light, and tail light designs. 1990- All models get body colored side mirrors. Coupes get body colored grilles, improved seat designs, and red/clear tail lights. LS coupes get a rear lip spoiler and all LS models (4 and 2 door) get real burlwood interior trim. 1991- New generation coupe and sedan introduced. New design includes a 3.2L V6 engine with 200hp. ABS is standard and dual airbags are standard on LS models. 1992- L models get faux wood trim & passenger airbag, LS models get standard heated seats, all Legends get cupholders. 1993- Base Legends now have dual airbags. Coupes now come standard with an upgraded 230hp version of the 3.2L called the "Type II", which also includes a throttle body activated traction control. A 6-speed manual is available with the upgraded engine. LS coupes get 16" wheels. All LS models get a 200 watt Bose "Premium" sound system. All L models now have color matched body moldings, a 100 watt Bose sound system, and dark faux wood trim. 1994- All models now say "LEGEND" across the center of the trunk lid. The base model is dropped. A high end 4-door GS model is introduced with the 16" wheels, upgraded suspension & brakes, and Type II engine from the coupe. A 6-speed manual is available on the GS and the old 5-speed manual is no longer available on any models. LS coupes now have painted lower body trim as well. All Legends get new front bumper designs. The L and LS sedans get a new grille with a slimmer chrome profile. A power tilt/telescoping steering wheel is introduced as a standard feature on all trims. 1995- The Special Edition is released (SE) as a value package version of the Legend L. After 1995, the Legend was redesigned and re-named "3.5RL" for the US market. |
