The Crucible

The talk of witchcraft is in the air
Judges coming from here and there
To judge people based on mere children
To think, they can be such heathens
People hanged of all ages
Treated like unwanted savages
With the love of John for his wife
It still cost him his life
He had an affair with young Abby
Who would take Elizabeth's life quite happily
The blame of witchcraft was passed around like a plague
Lies of witchcraft so others will gain
The judges held their heads up high
Not wanting to believe they fell for such lies
Mary Warren, following that of which she knew was wrong
Yet still with lies, with Abby she chose to go along
Not wanting to be the next they turn against
Many people for the charge of witchcraft, to death they were sentenced
In the end, the moment of truth
For John to decide how he wants this to be through
Would he die an honorable death
Or beside his wife in shame should he rest
To give up his name, that of which he has earned
Or to die and let his pride be returned
The thought of letting his children walk around with a disgraced name
Thinking that brought him great shame
He chose to keep his head held high
He chose not to let them take his pride
Hale cried for Elizabeth to save her husband's life
Head held high, Proctor said good-bye to his wife
He walked up onto the platform with two dear friends
And let his shame be put to an end
