New This Week
October 29, 2004. Yesterday I read that a fossil of a midget like humanoid was found in Asia. Called "hobbits", these creatures were no more than 3 or 4 feet tall and apparantly used fire and tools to live by. Scientists are not sure where they fit in the scheme of things but in science many new things are discovered and it's back to the drawing board. These creatures lived right up into the time of modern humans and it is not known if they interracted with modern humans or not. Should be an interesting topic of discussion in the weeks and months ahead. Story at:
October 29, 2004. Today's political scene just 4 days before the 2004 election is a sad affair to be sure. I have just finished reading an excellent book written by Robert Graves back in the 1930s, called "I,Claudius". Graves took the writings of Claudius Caesar and put them into the form of an autobiography. I am now halfway through the second book on Claudius called "Claudius the God". Both books I would recommend as the parallels between Rome and today are striking. First it started out with fights and arguments in the Roman Republic. Then as the Caesars came to power it became more sinister. Backstabbing (I mean REAL backstabbing) became prevalent to eliminate the political opponents and then some very well concocted poisons made by the women who wanted their offspring to be the next Caesar. One of these "sweet little darlings" became the Emperor Nero. We all know about Nero. Yesterday I read that in Florida a person tried to run down, with a vehicle, the Republican Representative from Florida who was the one who certified the 2000 election results in Florida. Now we are being threatened by death to many of us if we vote for Bush by a terrorist in the Middle East. We face interesting times ahead.
