The Nightbane setting is very different, it is set in modern earth with a few twists, not too many years ago an event called Dark day occurred. at this time the earth was cut off from all solar system light, (stars, sun, moon) there was allot of Chaos as people believed it to be the end of the world. then without any apparent reason or explanation it the light came back. but the world after this began having more reports of supernatural creatures, and some became verified. to the typical Joe on the street would say the world is that same as it has always been but the media is spooked and jumping at leads, to the players the world is now the hidden battleground for the Nightbane (servants of the protection of earth ) and the night lords with there servants (demons of darkness that long to conquer the world) Some of the mechanics can get lofty ( especially in combat) but overall the variety and flexibility of the system lend to a good playing system. ass said in my rifts review I highly recommend finding an experienced GM for this game as the rules can be difficult to decipher without a good deal of experience. ( as with most palladium systems)
