D&D 3rd edition

The rules put out for D&D third edition are very streamlined, they have simplified some of the combat systems. they have also made the skill check system make more sense to new players. but for all of the improvements they have made there is one area that I Believe needs allot of attention. the system as it stands leaves little leeway for experienced role-players to create custom characters without practically writing a new chapter into the rules. this also causes for said custom characters to be limited to one gaming group if not one GM. Wizards of the coast has tried to correct this by producing many "splat books" and supplement books, but for many gamers this is too much of an investment just to play a customized character. Overall I would recommend this system to new gamers and gamers who like a foundation in rules and structure. but for creative experienced role-players, the ones who take the into line of most RPG books to the limit ( these are not rules just guidelines).  There is far better options out there for this breed of gamer.
