| To Discuss this and other Truths...... |
| It all started in November of 2000. Suddenly George W Bush and Al Gore became side players in the Presidential race replaced in the limelight by people named Katherine Harris, Dave Boies, Theodore Olson, Justice Wells and Justice Rehnquist. Dimpled chads, recount disputes, angry protests and high flying emotions promised to turn the 2000 Presidential election into something to remember and for whatever side lost the legal battles something to steam about. On Dec 12th 2000 USSC struck down the FSSC order for a statewide hand count, and for all practical purposes it was over. And for all practical purposes the USSC decision started many liberals down the road of anger, denial, and distrust. A road that many liberals have been traveling for nearly 2 years now. Driving on, teeth clenched with anger, not bothering to check for road signs that may lead them back to the interstate system traveled by the rest of the country. Insistent that this is the road that will lead them to the promise land, while convinced the rest of the country are fooling themselves by traveling the mainstream. Admittedly, the scenery is much more interesting on their road. While mainstream America was swayed by a confident President that all would be well post 9-11 the liberal view was one of a Presidential conspiracy that led to the attacks. While the mainstream is looking at images of a President flying onto an aircraft craft to declare victory in the war in Iraq those traveling the liberal road of rage are privy to a backdrop of an AWOL president and a perceived illegal war. While the mainstream drivers can see happy Iraqis free of oppression and fear dancing in the streets and pulling down Saddam statues those driving the road of rage are witnessing the protests, witnessing soldiers shooting at the mobs, and buying bumper stickers asking about the whereabouts of WMD. While the mainstream highway is surrounded with information regarding the war on terror the liberal road of rage has frequent road side information stands that will give you the inside scoop on the neocons and other supposed radical right groups. Oh and a couple of pamphlets specific to the bias of Fox News. Granted in the aftermath of the 2000 elections, the liberal road of rage was much more widely traveled. Tempted by interesting views such as supposed police blockades, conspiracy purging of black voters, various voter intimidation, and an anger aimed at the felonious five Supreme Court justices many took a ride down the road. But the road was a bit bumpy and out of the way for most and 2000 made it relatively easy for the liberal sect to keep up the hope that the mainstream was still the place to be After all, Al Gore did win the Popular vote, the Democrats picked up a couple of seats in both houses and shortly after the election Jim Jeffords became an instant hero of the left by bolting the Republican Party leaving the Democrats in the majority. So buoyed by confidence of a backlash vote in 2002, and a feeling that all isnt so bad for the liberal cause many left the road of rage, and reentered mainstream society with their blood pressure back to normal. The liberal road of rage thinned out again after the terrorist attacks of 9-11. Almost 3000 people died that day, and mainstream America rallied around the President sending his approvals sky high. Never before has our country rallied so inclusively and never before has our country been more unified. In fact, polling showed as much as 90% of the public supported the President. Of course that 10% or so still traveling the road of rage were strengthening their resolve while driving further and further off the beaten path. These high approvals further enraged them because they were now clearing losing traction. Conspiracy they cried. Manipulation they suggested. Not only was the polling numbers tainted. But the President was most likely in on the attack. They were convinced that it was all a political move, a huge conspiracy to raise his approvals from the low 50s where he was becoming vulnerable to their attacks. Of course, on the liberal road of rage it was one of many conspiracies that Bush and gang were pulling off on the unsuspecting mainstream America. Down, but not out The raging liberals would not go quietly into the night. What was the plan of action?? Always the same They would attack. They would call for heads to roll and open Americas eyes to the world of liberal rage they wanted an impeachment of Bush, Dick Cheney in jail, and Aschrofts first born sacrificed to the pagan gods. Halliburton, Harken, 9-11 attacks, and the Patriot Act were their favorite targets of conspiracies But mainstream wasnt paying attention and the liberal were incensed that their interesting scenery was all being blocked on the mainstream highways by giant billboards promoting the hunt for Bin Laden and the members of Al Qaida. But they would push on. It didnt matter to them that Harken was old news, Halliburton was a non-issue, most approved of the Patriot Act, and the President being responsible for 9-11 was bad fiction on the liberal road of rage these issues were being advertised as part of the coming attractions along with another AWOL sequel due just in time for the 2002 elections. Of course when the 2002 elections did come along the general public was not interested in what the raging liberals were offering up The various Conspiracy theories were all bombs at the political box-office, while the President made record profits promoting his fight on terrorism and economic package of tax cuts. Not too surprisingly the Democrats suffered a midterm defeat. After licking the wounds of the 2002 defeat, many of the raging liberals were able to place a happy face on 2002 by citing the amount of votes it would have taken to reverse the fortune, pointing out that Mary Landrieu kept her seat, and to cite the results of local races in California. Not only does this not really matter; but it also ignores the fact that the Republicans went into the midterms defending more Senate seats and more vulnerable House seats, yet came away with gains. Cries of more voter fraud was heard, and view conspiracy theories were offered, but most of the cries were muted as these angry liberals were pretty far down the road at this point and just too away from mainstream America. Then came the issue of truth the moment that would define the liberal road of rage once and for all the mother of all causes. war. America was plotting against Iraq and the dictator Saddam Hussein. Troops were gathering, Countries were aligning, Powell was working the UN, Bush was pushing the pro-war rhetoric lines were being drawn in the sand and everyone had an opinion. For the first time in a long while mainstreamers were paying attention to the raging liberals even Fox News was sending crews to drive down the liberal road of rage to cover the angry liberals and their protests. Not only that, but the raging liberals were being joined in union by other mainstream liberals, if not in body, at least in soul. Polling suggested that a U.S. led war without UN approval would be very unpopular and that the raging liberals would finally have the President on the ropes. But then things changed. It started to appear that Powells efforts in the UN were being purposely thwarted by certain countries who were out to protect their own interests mainly France. French protesters were calling for American and British Blood, and polling suggested that a majority of the French were pulling for Saddam and the Iraqi army to win the possible war. Suddenly there was a major international rift between America and France. While the angry liberal crowd cheered the French position and found comfort that they were not alone in the antiwar sentiment many other liberals, angry with France, joined back with the mainstream. When push came to shove, and the bombs started to drop, approval for the war jumped into the 70s even without UN approval. While the mainstream was eating freedom fries and freedom toast in protest to the French behavior French wine and French bread stores were opening up all over the liberal road of rage. While Jacques Chiracs approval sank under 20% in mainstream America raging liberals were passing petitions to make him their 2004 presidential candidate. The Iraqi war; which at one time looked to be the cause that would unite the liberals actually worked to divide them even further. The Democratic Candidates have for all practical purposes split into two categories. The mainstream democrats led by Joe Leiberman who called on Democrats to be tough on terror, and suggesting that an anti-war Democrat could not win the Presidency vs. the angry Liberal democrats led by surging Howard Dean who used anti-war and anti-Bush rhetoric to incite small but rowdy crowds in his efforts to gain on the frontrunners. With 2004 looming ever so closely, those still traveling further down the liberal road of rage are in danger of becoming totally irrelevant... Similar to their hero Jacques Chirac, they can make a lot of noise shouting at the moon, but when the chips are on the line, their opinion matters little to mainstream America and even less to the current Administration. Their only hope of making a difference is by compromising their rage and supporting a candidate that can win rather than a candidate that will represent their anger. They need to assimilate back into mainstream America because lord knows not many are eager to travel down the liberal road of rage. The scenery may be interesting, but the coldheartedtruth is that the road goes nowhere. |
