Coldheart's Truth
The Middle East - Is Bush the answer??
To Home Page
With the situation in the middle east losing control, a lot of blame and excuses have been thrown around. Reporters, politicians and everyday folks like me and you have been  questioning the President, and wondering about his ability to deal with this crisis As of now. many unanswered questions remain

Will Bush rise to the occasion??
Should Bush rise to the occasion??
Is it possible for anyone to rise to the occasion??

Heres the deal, folks. These people have been fighting for over a 1000 years. Is it fair to blame anyone other than the people actually doing the fighting?? Do we really expect our president to step in and put an end to this centuries old conflict?? Well. Some actually do.

President Clinton put a great deal of effort in the Israel - Palestinian conflict over his term of presidency. In fact, it was his hope that helping to solve this age-old crisis could be the crowing achievement of his two terms his legacy, so to speak  While Clinton gained a lot of ground, and made a lot of progress, the end product eluded his grasp.  He did help to prevent the kind of violence we see today, and many thought he was on the edge of a final solution. It is these people who are disappointed that our new president did not pick up the baton and finish the race.

Herein lies the rub.. While Clintons efforts were certainly noble where they indeed necessary??  In other words Is it really our responsibility to bring peace to the middle east??  A better question may be.. do we really have the ability to put an end to a struggle that has been going on 100s of years before we were even a country??

Lets face it They have deep seeded problems. They harbor hate, and are taught hate at a very young age. Even if the leaders embrace a solution, and vow to live in harmony.. does that mean that the general population will accept this?? Certainly it would be prudent to take into consideration that there are many on both sides of the conflict who probably dont really want to live a peaceful existence with the other group. Even with a general pact of peace between the nations, and leaders we can expect that militant groups that keep the hate will no doubt turn up, and violence will still be common place.  While the peace efforts of Clinton and the middle eastern leaders may have put a band aid over the wound for the past few years the wound is obviously still open and bleeding. Treating the symptoms instead of the disease will not get the job done.

So what do we do?? Give up?? Not at all. While it may not be our responsibility to solve this crisis the rest to of the world is making it obvious that they expect us to. Even though the Arab world makes it well known they dislike us, they still seem to think that it is us who can barter peace for them.  We do something, because we may be the only ones who can.

Its time for Bush and company to go build on the significant blocks that have been laid down by our previous administrations, and particularly work to pick up the dropped baton that Clinton left us. We may not solve this crisis today, tomorrow, next week, or even next year This may take a lot of time and energy. But it is important, and we should at least give it the old college try.
