"Evil".......        "Acts of Evil" .........      "Evil-doers".......

Evil or some form of evil seems to be the talk of the times....The  Post September 11th 'buzzword' of choice. But what is evil??  Are the terrorist evil?? Do the acts they commit qualify as evil?? Does it depend on the definition of the word 'is'??

Most people view the word evil in terms of morality. Right vs Wrong....White vs Black....Good vs Evil.... However, by definition, something can be evil simply because it causes great harm to someone. One very definition is this....

"Evil - the force held to bring about harmful, painful, or unpleasant events."

Obviously it would be easy, if on the short end of this definition, to see the 'force' in question, not only as responsible but as morally bad as well, regardless of the intentions of said 'force'. As example, many cultures throughout history associated violent storms, epidemic diseases (plagues), and other natural occurances as signs of evil, or the doing of supernatural evil forces. Obviously, we know, as a logical scientific society that nature, in and of itself, is neither good or evil.

Likewise, it would be likely that those in the world who suffer from horrible poverty, violence, starvation, disease would look for a scapegoat so to speak, and assume the scapegoat to be evil.  In many parts of the world, we as Americans, are who these people blame... and in most cases they will see us as evil. Is this the 'right thing' for these people to do?? Did we do something to deserve this distinction?? hhhmmmm.... Well guess what... it doesn't matter.

When children die in Iraq due to malnutrition and disease,  most arabs blame the sanctions imposed from the Gulf War.... they see the U.S. front and center fighting any attempts to loosen the reigns... they see U.S. fighter planes flying over Iraq as a show of american dominance and arab humiliation. They see us as both at fault and evil....

We say... blame it on Saddam and his policies... by having him as your leader, you brought this on yourself....

When 3000 americans die in the WTC towers we blame those who flew the planes...and planned the missions...

They say, blame it on your leaders and your policies.... by allowing these leaders to continue these policies, you brought this on yourself...

Now, is Coldheart really saying what you think he is saying??? America is to blame for the 9-11 attacks??  The answer is absolutely not!!! We are not to blame... In fact we are the most benevolent superpower the world has ever known. We are very good to our allies and countries who need our help. We just happen to be not so quick to forgive and forget someone like Suddam for what he did, and not so trustworthy that he won't do it again.  We are not evil.... and we should not be blamed for the attacks... However, that doesn't mean that those who committed the acts on 9-11, or those who cheered them don't think we are.

The better question is this.... Are the terrorist and those who wish to commit these types of acts evil?? If they don't see what they are doing as wrong... if they, in fact, think they are fighting evil  themselves... Can they still be evil??  If our actions and policies can lead to death, and we are not evil... How can we call them evil?? Isn't this hypocracy??      The answer, again, is absolutely not!!

The difference is one word..... Hate..... We do not hate those who are harmed by our policies... in fact the sanctions on Iraq provide for food and medicine to be shipped to Iraq, provide for the sale of oil to keep the people of Iraq fed and in shelter.... and we even provide additional humanitarian aid.... In most cases, it is not our fault that the food, medicine and aid does not get to those who need it.

They hate... in some cases, they are taught as children to hate, their lives are consumed with hate, their very lives revolve around hate.... This hatred, and the willingness to act on it is what makes them evil... pure and simple.. So yes.. indeed... it is not wrong to call what happened on sept 11 to be evil, and it is not wrong to call those who did it evil, and it is not wrong to call those who would do it again evil...  Now 'evildoers'?? Im not sure that's a word... But other than that....  Americans have every right to see this fight as

                                   'Good' vs 'Evil'....

and that, my friends, is the coldhearted truth.

Evil or not Evil... That is the question...
