    Cambodia    
After a gruesome civil war, the Khmer Republic collapses and the Khmer Rouge take power in Cambodia.

    Laos    
The Pathet Lao take control of the country. In December they abolish the monarchy and set up the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

    Vietnam    
After the withdrawal of US troops, fighting continues between North and South Vietnam. On the 30th of April what remains of the South Vietnamese government surrenders unconditionally. North Vietnamese troops occupy Saigon without a struggle and Vietnam is reunified under Communist control.


    Soviet Union/United States    
The United States and Soviet space programs cooperate. This leads to the successful docking in orbit of U.S. Apollo and U.S.S.R. Soyez satellites.

    Soviet Union/United States    
The United States, the Soviet Union and 33 other countries sign the Helsinki Accords, in which member nations vow to respect boundaries and human rights, and to cooperate in economic, scientific, and humanitarian issues.


    Angola    
The Portuguese army withdraws from Angola. Civil war follows after this as rival nationalist groups try to take control of the country. The MPLA, in control of the capital city, declares itself the government of independent Angola.The MPLA is armed by the Soviet Union. UNITA and FNLA in Huambo also claim control of Angola. They are supported by Western powers and South Africa.
