Outdated and untrue information is constantly told to the public and working on peoples phobias of snakes, spiders and scorpions gains support to ban reptiles. Salmonella is another fact that is blown widely out of propotion to scare the public into fearing out scaly freinds.
Although most herps do carry salmonella as long as good hygiene is prccatised after handling then the risks of contracting the disease or near zero. There is a higher risk of catching something from "domesticated" animals then herps. But some narrow minded organisations ignore this and just constanly drone on and on about how dangerous reptiles are.
The major threats to this hobby are animal aid and actually the RSPCA. DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO THIS CHARITY. It will all go to building a new headquarters and not to animals welfare. The RSPCA have enough money anyway, �91 million + last I heard. Although there are many inspectors that are worthy of working for a decent charity the RSOCA is not the right one. The RSPCA have been involved in many raids recently, unjustly taking peoples herps. Aswell as 10 contico boxes, or was that the Reptile Trust?!? Someone please tell me what is so dangerous about these boxes that they need to be conviscated!!!
