Feeding
Feeding is a common problem when talking about Royal Pythons. Well mine eat well so I cannot say that I have had to work on this subject.

You should feed your snake an item about the same size as the snake at the thickest part of the body. I feed mine mice even though they are big enough for rats. I just think that small items are better then big items.

Well if you have a non-feeding royal then don't worry too much. One royal has gone 22 months or something without eating. So don't panic.

But there are a few tricks that you can use to try to get him/her to eat.

Frodo fedding on an adult mouse.

1- Use a different coloured mouse/rat. Use black or brown.
2- Use a gerbil, these are similar the mamals they would eat in the wild.
3- Leave the prey in over night as these predators are nocturnal.
4- Place the prey in a box and leave it in the snakes enclosure, this wil represent the hunting the snake does in the wild, going into the preys burrow.
5- Prick the prey's nose so blood is drawn, this gives the snake more awarness of the prey and may put it into the hunting mood.
6- Similar to No. 4 smash the head of the prey item to reveal its brain, will drive the snake even more in the mood.
7- Use a lizard, most places do not sell frozen lizards but you can find them, lizards are also a prey item it will eat in the wild.
8- Wiggle the prey item as if it is alive

You do not really need to do this in any order they are just tips.
On another note Do not feed your snake live prey! It is against the law to feed live prey to a reptile unless there is no other choice. What I mean by this is that if your snake will only eat live prey and nothing else then it is allowed but you have to try many different tricks and prove it incase you go to court, videoing is a good piece of evidence. When your snake goes off eating for a few months then film your snake not eating the variuos methods Iv'e outlined. Also while the prey is in the snakes enclosure there must be food for the prey availble aswell as fresh water. Also bedding material. If feeding a live bird then
nesting material is needed. ALWAYS WACTCH THE PREY IT MAY ATTACK THE SNAKE, IF IT DOES REMOV
E IT IMMEDIATELY
NEVER FEED YOUR SNAKES WHEN THEY ARE IN THE SAME ENCLOSURE TOGETHER. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS ON HOW ONE SNAKE GOT HOLD OF THE PREY NOT REALISING HIS ROOM MATE WAS ON THE OTHER END, THE RESULT = ONE FAT SNAKE.
OR HOW ONE SNAKE BEGAN CONSTRICTING THE PREY, MANAGED TO GRAB HOLD OF HIS PARTNER AND CONSTRICT THAT WITH THE MOUSE.
