Colby Witherspoon
Professional Literary Experience
After having work published or self-published and having many plays produced, Colby Witherspoon finally received recognition from the mainstream press. His incredibly popular critical analysis of the Guns N' Roses video trilogy, combined with his fact-based play McMARTIN, got the attention of Hollywood Producer Lemuel Johnston, who requested an adaptation of THE LIFTED VEIL by George Eliot. Since then, Colby has been commissioned to work as a Professional Screen Writer by many production companies including Gunther, IPW, and Adelstein-Parouse. He has received interest for original screenplays by Red House and Perestroika. To top it off, when he moved to Los Angeles, Colby began to write critical analyses of its indigenous music: the surf-'n'-hot-rod movement of the early-'60s, the lush pop of the mid-'60s, the acid-rock of the '70s, the glam scene of the '80s and '90s. His most epic work became an analysis of Abysmal Crucifix's legendary 2002 album GIRTH McDÜRCHSTEIN'S 'THE HEDGE,' but he had trouble approaching such complex material without a guide. A chance meeting with rock legend Girth McDürchstein led to the critical solution: every single scrap of anything devoted to THE HEDGE. Letters, lyrics, cut songs, bootleg videos, you name it. Armed with these resources, Colby began his most triumphant critical analysis to date. It is published on the Web at Abysmal Crucifix's official website but will soon be expanded (as was the Guns N' Roses analysis) into a book-length series of essays for Japanese publisher Handsome House, a subsidiary of Gentosha Inc.

Colby Witherspoon
Karabekian Press
Colby Witherspoon was rasied in America's publishing hotbed, rural Minnesota. As a boy Colby watched his mother, (the sole publishing director at Grimsrud Publishing Co.) train such legendary publishing figures as Wesley Cornwall, George Reeser, Gray MacMillan (the "font king"), and Chester Marlborough. As soon as he was old enough, Colby participated in an internship program at Grimsrud, learning the technical aspects of printsetting. After receiving a BA in English/literature from Louisiana State University, Colby began writing articles (many of which were published in major magazines or journals or self-published) full time. He has contributed to and edited several anthologies of poetry, essays, and critical analysis published under his own shingle, Karabekian Press. During this time Colby held the position of resident writer and director at the Children's Theatre of the Penumbra Company, a local theatre troupe. Colby was also hired by the Keokuk Civil War Society to instruct and direct battle reenactments. After two years, Grimsrud offered Colby the job of Artistic Director for All Nonfiction (approving dust jacket designs, font setting, etc.), a job that would have relocated him to their offices in Stockholm, Sweden. As quickly as he could Colby left the meeting, quit his job, packed his car, broke his lease, and moved to Los Angeles. Over the 2 ½ years since then, Colby has continued his literary criticism while "selling out" to the Hollywood dream factor. He has worked in such positions as Associate Office Manager in Charge of Interns, Runner, Assistant Best Boy Grip, and Third Unit Production Manager in Charge of Bulgarian Exterior Insert Shots. Most recently, Colby has worked to perfect a draft of the highly anticipated remake of C.H.U.D. He is the fifteenth writer to tackle the script, currently on its 23rd draft. It is expected to open in theatres in 2010.
