Continuations as for a weak two opening. 1C:2N = 5-5 in minors, 6-8HCP. 1C:3C = 6+ clubs, 6-8HCP. Interference over 1C -------------------- Whenever responder passes over interference (except over an artificial 1H), a 1NT rebid by opener shows 18-20HCP. With a weaker hand, opener can pass, or double for takeout, or redouble for rescue. The (re)double also takes care of opener's very strong hands. If there is a bid in front of opener, then at 1-level: double = takeout, 1NT = 18-20HCP at 2-level: double = typically a balanced 19+ HCP; 2M = two-suited with clubs; 2NT = strong with clubs. at 3-level: double = typically a balanced 19+ HCP; suit bids = natural strong hand. 1C:(X):p = 3+ clubs, weak or balanced. (If passed round to opener, XX = SOS or strong, 1NT = 18-20HCP, others nat.) :XX = good balanced hand with 4 or 5 clubs. :1D+ = same as without the double. 1C:(1D):p = weak or trapping. :X = 6+ HCP, no 4-card major. (Continuations are natural, opener's 1NT rebid shows a min.) :1H+ = same as without the intervention, except for cue-bid which is strong take-out (if 1D is nat). 1C:(1H natural):p = weak or trapping. :X = 6+ HCP, typically balanced without 4 spades. :1S+ = same as without the intervention, except for cue-bid which is strong take-out. 1C:(1H not promising 4 hearts):p = forcing: any hand which would have responded 1D. Opener doubles to show a 1H rebid. :X = 4+ hearts, 6+ HCP. Same as uncontested 1C:1H. :1S+ = as without the intervention. 1C:(1S):p = weakish or trapping. (Opener should be keen to reopen whenever possible if 1S is artificial.) :X = 6+ HCP with 4+ hearts. Continuations as for 1C:1H where appropriate. :1N = transfer to *clubs*, at least invitational. :2C = transfer to diamonds. :2D = transfer to hearts. :2H = about 6-8HCP with 5 hearts and a 5-card minor. :2S = GF take-out (if 1S was natural); GF with 5+ spades (if 1S was artificial). :2N = GF balanced with a spade stop. :3C = About 6-8HCP, 5-5 in the minors. 1C:(1N):p = weakish. X = penalty. bids = same system as over a 15-17HCP 1NT opening. 1C:(2C or higher) Defend as if they overcalled a strong no-trump opening. (e.g. Lebensohl over 2D/2H/2S.) Continuations after 1D ---------------------- Responses are as in natural systems, with inverted raises. 1D:1M-1N = 11-16HCP, at most a doubleton in partner's suit. Includes minimum 4D-5C hands. 1D:1M-2C = natural: may be 4D-5C, but only if better than minimum. 1D:1M-2N = 6+ diamonds, better than minimum, forcing to 3D. 1D:1M-3D = invitational with 6+ diamonds and 3-card support for partner.
