Union Left Flank at the
Old Stone Fence
The Old Stone Fence
Here on the Left flank of the union forces was a low stone fence that bordered an old farm lane parallel to the Shenandoah River at the western bank. The fence was used by the union troops for protection as well as the tree line that was between the fence and the open battlefield. The above picture is what remains of this fence today. This position would be looking into the 11th West Virginia's left flank facing north. The battlefield to the left and the river to the right.
