[Because Private Moses Parsons was not married when he was in the service, and he was not the sole provider for his parents, he has no pension record filed, HOWEVER, private Parsons died while in the service of his country]

Private Moses Parsons
Company K, 11th West Virginia Infantry
enlisted: August 14, 1862 in Cottageville, Jackson County
muster-in: August 31, 1862 in Ravenswood, Jackson County

Moses was part of the mobilization of union forces throughout the state for the New River Campaign. Enroute from Clarksburg, the Company [K] boarded the B & O RR to Parkersburg. From Parkersburg, the Companies of the 11th, boarded steamships to Charleston and Camp Piatt. In a letter home from Private Thomas McPherson [who was KIA later at Lynchburg] to his mother [in McPherson's Pension Application], Thomas stated, "We had a hard time on the bote (boat). there was one of our boys (Moses) got drounded a bought (about) two miles above point pleasant. the bote was going so fast that we did not get him. we landed safe at camp piatt on the 25th............"

The Regiments descriptive log also refers to this incident as the one that took the life of private Moses Parsons.

Moses was born in 1844, in Jackson County. His father was Moses Parsons Sr. and his mother was Mary (Polly) Dewees.
Mary was the daughter of Samuel and Edith Dewees. This would make him the nephew of Benjamin Casto Dewees, Henry Spencer Dewees, and Alfred E. S. Dewees (Their pensions are on file).
