Filed for an Invalid Pension:

(1) Gunshot wound of the ring finger of the left hand, in the Battle of Cloyd's Mountain, May 9, 1864. Also, for rheumatism and other hardships of military life.

Sarah Williams Dewees filed for a Widows Pension:

(1) After the death of Alfred E. S. Dewees, Sarah his widow filed for widow's benefits.

One of the affadavits was from Henry Spencer Dewees, Alfred's brother.

Military Service can be seen in Benjamin Casto's Pension, Alfred's brother. His service included the New River Campaign (Battle of Cloyd's Mountain), Lynchburg Campaign, action in the Shenandoah, Petersburg, and Appomattox Campaign.

(b) Sarah Williams Dewees, September 5, 1872, in Athens County, Ohio. Sarah was the widow of Hamilton Taylor Dewees, the nephew of Alfred. Hamilton was killed, September 28, 1868, on the Marietta-Chilicothe-Cincinnati RR working in a tunnel on a track crew.
