The Battle of Cool Springs (Snickers Ferry)

Union position front & center where
the 2nd Brigade, 1st Infantry Division was placed

Union Front & Center Facing their Right Flank

This position would be approximately the extreme left flank of the 2nd brigade, 1st division which included from left to right (in the picture from closest to furthest) the 2nd Maryland Potomac Home Brigade, 1st Maryland Eastern Shore, 18th Connecticut and the famed 4th West Virginia Infantry. In the foreground is Neal Gaten, the great-great grandson of Private Benjamin Casto Dewees of the 11th West Virginia Infantry, and g.g.g. grandnephew of privates Henry Spencer Dewees and Alfred E.S. Dewees, of the same regiment. These ancestors fought here nearly 135 years ago to the day.
