Profiles

Bill Yuen

Bill Yuen received his Bachelor degree in Engineering from Lakehead University, Ontario and is a registered Professional Engineer in B.C. He is married and has two children who recently graduated from high school. Currently, Mr. Yuen is a columnist at the Sing Tao Daily, the Manager of Major Accounts at Canada Post Corporation, a Board Member of Vancouver Public Library and the Vice-Chairman of the Vancouver School Board. His daily tasks coincide with the purpose of our club, which is to promote collecting and to educate people about the hobby. That's why he is a long-time supporter of our club. His first talk was given to us at the 1997 Second Annual Dinner and Dance at the Hyatt Regency in Vancouver. The topic revolved around "The Evolution of Canadian Stamps". His concise speech further enhanced our interest in philately and our curiosity about the future evolution of stamps.

"Bill Yuen is a leader in the neighborhood," said Ms. Sandy McCormick, Trustee of Vancouver School Board. "is committed to children, and believes in public schooling. Bill's loyalty to the community is second to none and it's been a great pleasure to have served with him during the past 3 years on the School Board." As a school trustee, Mr. Yuen believes that hiring quality teachers and supplying superb educational tools are essential to our education system. He is working on implementing parental involvement in public education especially in administration staff selection process and special program selection consultation. "Advocacy for the students is my first priority. At the same time, I am determined to ensure that our school system is preparing our students with the knowledge required for the new millennium?" said Mr. Yuen. We certainly hope that he can achieve his goals.
