Dear Parents,
By now, I'm sure that most of you have heard about the latest way that I dreamed up to torture the swim team. The Texas High School Triathalon Championships on May 6, 2000, at the Cinco Ranch Subdivision at Katy, Texas.
While some of the swimmers have been enthusiastic, others have been apprehensive. Hopefully, I can address most of their concerns in this letter. If not, please feel free to call me. (Or, email the webmaster HERE)
*I am using participation in this event as their final exam only to encourage participation. If there is some compelling reason that a swimmer/diver cannot participate, (i.e., injury, funeral, wedding, etc.) I certainly will understand, and will think up something equally obnoxious as the triathalon for his/her final exam grade.
*I do not expect anyone to go out and but a bike for this triathalon. However, if you do bike in the triathalon, please make sure that your bike is in good working condition. YOU MUST WEAR A HELMET AT ALL TIMES THAT YOU ARE ON THE BIKE!
*The entry free for the triathalon is $20 which is quite reasonable for a triathalon; especially since the participants will receive a t-shirt. However if this is a hardship, please let me know.
My children and husband have been participating in triathalons for several years. We have found this an enjoyable experience both for the participants and the spectators. The race director, Christy Patterson, is the swim coach at Cinco Ranch, a new high school in Katy ISD. Last year she was at McNeil High School and has put this event on at Lake Georgetown for several years. We attended and it was very well run.
I beleive that the kids will enjoy this experience because of the camaraderie and the personal challenge. I hope you will lend your support to this activity. Please have them return the attached entry form by April 24. I will mail our entries as a group. I will also pick up our race packets on Friday, May 5. We will meet at the race site at 6:30 a.m. on May 6, 2000. I will have maps available closer to the event.
