-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- fighting someone in the streets is still relatively easy if you know bjj and your opponent is just some regular ol' brawler. my cousin's a kickboxer and challenged me to a friendly match to see how effective our styles were. of course he was gi-less. we went several rounds...he got tapped out every time. my rule of thumb for fighting on the streets is stand up with them to see if you can hang. but "test" his stand-up skills for no more than 30 seconds. if i decide that i want to roll, then i shoot for the legs if he punches, or catch his leg and "absorb" the kick (if he kicks hip or higher) and go for the one legged take down while sweeping his other leg. fighting a gi-less opponent is all about positioning and technique. if you're mounting them with any mount, keep your knees, thighs, arms, heels, tight against their body as to not giving them space to move or "squirm"...using your weight effectively is a must as well. pinning them to the ground with the good ol' forearm to the side of their face or neck coupled with your knee or shin pinning one of their biceps to the ground is always a good setup technique that i use, just remember to keep base, if pinning his neck with your left forearm, your right hand should be planted above his head so that he can't "oomp" or reverse mount on you. with all that said, i never break bones or dislocate joints in a street fight to avoid the law...if broken bones and dislocated joints are part of the aftermath, then it only leads to doctors, which in turn leads to the police. so no armbars, paintbrushes, kimuras, kneebars, kneck cranks, etc. i'd go for the triangle from a full mount or guard, arm triangle, rear naked, and the guillotine...until they pass out. this way they're gonna wake up, practically injury free, in fact...you've done them a favor by giving them a little nap time =P so he's injury free and he'll head on home knowing he just got his ass beat and think twice the next time he starts sh*t with a smaller guy =)
