After a long winter, spring has arrived in my part of the country. Its great to stow away the winter garb and get out into the warmth and sunshine.

No doubt some of our kin have written about their Olmste(a)d ancestry. Keith MacLellan who resided in Ottawa, ON before his death on September 29, 1998 was one who did. In the last few years of his life he put together a history titled “The Olmsteds of South Hull” which is some 60 pages long. Apparently copies of this history were available at Keith’s funeral, otherwise it is basically unpublished.  In January 2000 I got a draft copy of it from Charles Rose, a first cousin to Keith.  Charles was involved in Olmste(a)d research for many years and he assisted Keith in his project.

In our newsletter of May 2000 I mentioned that Edith Isabella MacLellan (Keith’s mother) celebrated her 100th birthday on December 31,1999. Just recently I learned that this lady died March 20, 2001. Not to many individuals will gain the distinction of living in three centuries.

Carl will be mentioning the Olmste(a)d Family Association reunion which will be held in Fredericton, NB August 14-17, 2003. Several of our Jabez kin will be attending and it would be great to see you there.  A bit of history that may be interesting is that as a Captain in the 4th Massachusetts regiment, Jabez took part in the attack and capture of Fort Louisbourg from the French in 1745. Louisbourg is some 350 miles from Fredericton and those attending the reunion might want to consider visiting Louisbourg as well.

May you all have a wonderful summer.
