JOE
BARBER’S COLUMN
Hello again one and all and a special welcome to those who have joined our group in the past few months. I hope you find this newsletter and subsequent ones interesting.
We
give a special thanks to Danean Mitchell who has written for this newsletter. I
am sure Carl would like to hear from others who have some family history they
can share with the rest of us.
While
traveling to Calgary, AB last May I learned of an Olmsted clock being offered
for sale in Calgary by a person who repairs antique clocks as well as buying
and selling them. I arranged to see the clock and through a trade reference
book which the vendor had was able to determine the clock had been made for
Charles Albert Olmsted, a watchmaker and jeweler in Ottawa, ON from about 1890
until his death in 1943. There is more about this clock elsewhere in this
newsletter. Daniel Olmsted of Swift Current, SK is now the proud owner of this
clock. He purchased it because of the
name Olmsted on the face and as well he is interested in collectibles. Some of
Daniel’s kin have traced their family ancestry back to Nicholas (1615-1684), #4
in the Genealogy of the Olmsted family in America 1632-1912.
A
project that I have been working on for some time and which is also part of
this newsletter is a mailing list of our subscribers with their early pedigree
line from Jabez, to the extent I know it.
If anyone is unhappy about his or her address being displayed blame me,
not Carl, as it is my idea. I failed to make my code column wide enough for the
long zip codes and the + after 5 digits simply means there is a zip code
extension. One of the objectives of this project is to show who your closer kin
are in the event you do not know of them already. Some of our subscribers are
from the James of Hartford group or the Richard of Norwalk group and another of
the shortcomings of my program is that I cannot record your information, and so
they are omitted Also there are some
subscribers who I don’t have information for and these people are omitted also. Carl and I would appreciate receiving any
corrections or added data people can provide.
Happy
ancestor hunting in the months ahead.
Joe
