CONSTABLE JABEZ OF BROOKFIELD
Jabez Olmsted was a Constable in Brookfield in
1720. In May of that year, Benj. Walker
and Hopskill Hinds of Brookfield killed a wolf, and brought its head to the
Constable, who cut off its ears in the presence of the selectman, who then
ordered the bounty be paid.
One of the selectman was Jabez’s father-in-law,
Thomas Barnes, and one of the others was his brother-in-law, Samuel Barnes.
