In the mid 1960's, before Basil Spectal was even born, his father Harrison Spectal developed a breakthrough technology in the field of magnetic tape computation. With this technology he began a multinational corporation for the research and development of hardware, which later had a great impact on the computers we use today. He ran this corporation with his brother Elias. The two of them, both well educated and experts in mechanical engineering, built an empire, eventually diversifying into many economic areas. The million dollar revenue was not enough for Elias who began to buy up all publicly held shares of Spectal Corp. He gained control of the vast majority of the company from his brother in a hostile takeover in 1975, just one year after the birth of Harrison's son Basil. This was far from the last bad news to be dealt to Harrison in 1975. His wife, Charlotte, died mysteriously in a horrible car accident in which her car went through the Paragon Bridge guardrails, straight into the winter-frozen river below. Now left alone to care for his new-born son, Harrison was at a turning point in his life. His fortune now almost completely depleted, Harrison sold the remaining stock in his company, and began again. With new-found hope in the eyes of his son Basil, Harrison founded Basil Enterprises, a holding company. He invested in several small corporations throughout Paragon City and abroad. With some good business sense and a dash of luck Harrison again rose through the dim to amass a fortune as one of Paragon's social and financial elite. 1992. Basil Spectal, now a high school graduate moves away from his father to attend the prestigious Oxford University. As bad fortune befell his father, in 1993, it likewise induced itself into the life of young Basil. Harrison Spectal was found murdered in his Paragon City mansion. Shot twice. Basil, stricken with grief, had no choice but to drop out and return home to take control of a vastly expanding Basil Enterprises. Life had just begun for Basil and it seemed like all he held dear was taken away from him. Several personal and professional disagreements followed with Basil and his uncle Elias. Over the years to follow a feud arose, and bad blood began, as Basil believes had happened years earlier to his father and Elias. Contrary to what Basil Believed... as much as was taken was to be given in power beyond human comprehension. As word quickly spead about the Rikti invasion. Basil and corporate America alike shook with anxioty. Basil had no plans of allowing all he and his father had worked so hard for to be taken away again but yet another hostile force. Basil was determined to resist with all he had.... but what could he do... so passionate about his cause... yet so helpless to do anything.... The Rikti, a deadly and merciless alien force. The Continuum, a highly advance culture from beyond our galaxy, foresworn to protect a balance throughout the multi-verse. Two forces, imbued with power beyond mortal man. The Continuum, by far the superior of the two non-Earthly natives, is sworn to protect a balance... and by that same creed is unable to destroy the Rikti in efforts to save the Earth. A peaceful people, the Continuum decide against direct interference and choose instead to take a human... with great morals and will for civility... and make him their champion in a battle of galactic proportion. With newly received power and intelligence a hero is born. Batai, the Continuum's word for Freedom, is also given to this chosen man of heroism. Basil Spectal is..... BATAI!

Batai, new to his powers and the responsibility forced upon him by the Continuum, was at first uneasy about the situation into which he was so quickly thrust. He found hard the delegation of his company which he had controlled so personally... now into the hands of a board chosen CEO. Free to pursue personal activities Batai began with training... for what... he wasn't sure. With the best personal trainers money can buy Basil learned the art and tactics of combat. With tension mounting in Paragon city and the population of super-human villians growing every day Basil knew it was time to mount his offensive. Donning a costume Basil became Batai and sought his first victory. With the obviously improved skills and powers, Batai easily began putting the pinch on local organized crime. His first successes, no disappointment to Batai, gained him no public recognition. He continued to fight evil for the reasons he had come to terms with... To serve as a Champion for both the unwilling Continuum and the unable humans. With each battle his experience and control of power became more evident. Time passes by and although crime still flourishes, Batai continues on with the same vigor and determination as the day he began. This in part because of the personal resposibility he feels for the unitimely death of his parents. A struggle he often finds more difficult than that of public protection. Basil, no longer in contact with his uncle Elias, lost sight of why they ever fought. Although he blames himself for their death, Basil could not alay his fear that Elias was somehow connected. Crime, Batai's main enemy, seemed to be winning the everlong battle for control in Paragon City. Batai's efforts seemingly having little or no effect. So he decided to take further measures to ensure the shift of power to the good side. Batai, with friends and colleagues met along his travels in Paragon City, formed Skyline. A team of super-humans and the like with common goals of restoration of peace in their fair city's borders. Skyline, with resourses accessed from Basil Enterprises, established a base of operations just within city limits. Using the most advanced technologies in combat and information retrieval, Skyline began to emerge as a premier fighting force on Paragon's behalf. Batai came into focus as Skyline's leader. Being one of the team's more powerful heroes, he led Skyline to countless victories, including the discovery of Crey Industry's involvement in organized crime. Batai's powers, common attibutes to the average Continuum citizen, had both an exceptional variety and mainfestations. Not to mention the limitless potential for mastery of these powers, all laid upon the determination of Batai to train and develop them. His powers, eminate and are internally driven by a physical focus implanted into Basil, from a stone called the DREPS stone. From this, with concentration, Batai is able to tap into unknown cosmic energies used for flight, kinetic energy force blasts and exceptional telepathy and like mental abilities. Batai's energy blast is mainfested through his hands directed physically through the aperture of his arms. Batai's flight can extend into speeds capable of carrying him to the nearest star, Alpha-Centauri, within weeks of departure. Batai's mental abilities that have shown themselves at this point in his development are telepathy and telekinesis. These feats are only accomplished with great concentration and have no comparison to other mentals who have much more control and intensity of their ability.

Upon arriving to work that fateful day, he had a precognitative feeling that he should have stayed in bed that morning. He was scheduled for an official ribbon cutting ceremony at one of his newest manufacturing plants. After confirming all was a go with his personel managers, he proceeded to the site. He arrived in style as always chauffered in his limosine. All went off without a hitch. The brief speach and reception were well received and Basil was headed back to his Corporate Office, or so he thought. Moments after entering his limo, a great sonic blast could be heard from behind the plant. He feared the worst. The concussive force from the blast shattered the windows in the limo temporarily phasing Basil. It was worse than he feared. The Rikti were descending upon his new plant as he just finished its dedication! A shard of broken glass had peirced his driver's neck causing a strong flow of blood from his jugular. This was it for him, he had had enough. With no one around he donned the costume he had earlier placed in his limo trunk for just such an eventuality. His heart rate quickened as he drew near what might be his final resting place. At once he saw what had been instilling fear in the hearts and minds of many, as yet uncaptured on film. Rikti soldiers marauding about like they owned the place. Hey, he thought, I own this place!. With that, he became enraged, at that moment he knew his destiny... He was Batai.
