John J. Mims - Private - Company G. He enlisted at Opelika, Alabama 15 May 1862 at the age of 30. On 1 January 1863 John was sent to the hospital at Dalton, Georgia to be treated for a gunshot wound and was returned to duty 13 days later.He was captured at Nashville, Tennessee on 15 December 1864 and was sent to the military prison at Louisville, Kentucky. From there he was transferred on 20 December 1864 to Camp Douglas Illinois where he died of pneumonia on 18 February 1865. He is buried in Block 3 grave #813 Chicago City Cemetery. Thomas Bolton Hooten - Private - Company A. At the age of 17 Thomas left his fathers large plantation near Ramah, Alabama to join his three brothers, Davis W., H.C., and R.D. who had enlisted earlier in Company A. Thomas was wounded in the leg at oneof the battles of Atlanta. After the war the family lost most of thier wealth and went in many different directions. Thomas selled near Waterloo, Alabama in an area called Panther Creek near the Tennessee River. He died in 1923. courtsey of gr gr great grandson Allen Helms |
