Garrett Hurst
Born August 25, 1845 in Claiborne Co. Died December 17, 1936
in Gainesville, Texas. Garrett  joined the the 1st Tn Cavalry at the
age of 16. He was taken prisoner and was paroled April 28,1865
at Cumberland Gap, Ky.
It has been told that his favorite was story was " The cavalry
had made a long drive before finding food.  They finally found
a place that served a very good meal and ate heartily. They
mounted and were leaving in good sprits when a soldier rode his
mount up to a walled-in back yard and saw pile of cat heads and
skins. They all got very sick and were worse off than before
eating."
