Jefferson Winston Williams  - Pvt./ Sgt - Company D.
Jefferson was born 1827 in Mississippi. He enlisted at Lexington,
Mississippi as a Private April 10, 1862 for the war under Capt. Wafford. Serving as Sgt. he was was at the seige of Vicksburg
and was there at the surrender July 7, 1863. After his parole at
Vicksburg he was hospitalized at Marion, Alabama and after a
long convalesence which lasted until September 1864 he
re-enlisted with his old Unit which had reformed. At the Battle
of Blakely Alabama he was captured, April 9, 1865 and sent to
Ship Island. A prison which had very poor conditions. Through
all of his ordeals he managed to survive and lived the remainder
of his life in Holmes County Mississippi and is buried at Lexington
Cemetery with his family

Withers, William Temple - Colonel
    William was born 8 January 1823 in Harrison County, Ky.
He served in the Mexican Wars in 1846 after being educated
at  Bacon  University at Harrodsburg,  Ky.   He was a lawyer
from 1851 - 1861. Helping to form the 1st Kentucky Brigade
he then orginized the 1st Mississippi Light Artillery of which
he was appointed Colonel. Serving with distinction in the
Western Campaigns he was captured at Vicksburg, then
exchanged he served at Mobile Bay and central Alabama
until the close of the war. He surrenderat Macon,Georgia.
