| Sonnet for Valentine's Day In early years, filial love befits, For then our heart is wed to parents dear, When by their love our fire of love is lit, And they first teach, "In love there is no fear." In teens and twenties, camaraderie Expands our hearts to take in all mankind, Then "by your love," is how the world will see, That "God so loved the world" is now our sign. Romantic love is but an extra flame, A strength'ning of the bond between two ones, So She Who Loves is now my lover's name, While passion of true love between us runs. "Love, then do as you will," Augustine said, So with Agape love from God we're fed. Peter |
